Where Epoxy Shines
- Base coats in garage flake systems, where its thickness and bond strength help
- Basements and interior rooms with little direct sunlight
- Workshops that see chemicals, oils and dropped tools
- Decorative metallic floors for finished basements, bars and showrooms
Know the Trade-Offs
Epoxy cures slowly compared to polyaspartic, often overnight or longer between coats, and it needs reasonably warm concrete to cure properly. That's one reason epoxy installs in Orange and Rockland are most common from spring through fall, or in heated spaces. Most epoxies also amber (yellow) with UV exposure, so in a garage that gets afternoon sun through an open door, installers often top epoxy with a UV-stable polyaspartic or polyurethane clear coat.
Solid, Flake or Metallic
Solid color
Clean and simple, often for shops and utility spaces. Shows dust more than flake does.
Flake
The classic garage look. Hides dirt and adds texture.
Metallic
A swirled, high-gloss decorative finish for basements and commercial interiors.

Questions
Does epoxy turn yellow?
Most epoxies amber with UV exposure. Indoors and in garages kept closed, it's often minor. A UV-stable top coat prevents most of it.
Can epoxy go down in winter?
Epoxy needs the concrete and air within the product's temperature range to cure. In unheated garages that usually means waiting for warmer weather. A heated space can work year-round.
